Petersfield 5 Southampton University II 2: ON THE back of their defeat against Basingstoke the previous week, Petersfield regrouped on Saturday afternoon as they hosted Southampton University.
The students took the lead when they scored from a well-rehearsed penalty corner.
Petersfield immediately equalised when Harris strolled past many defenders and reversed swept the ball past an oncoming keeper.
The visitors re-took the lead with another goal from a penalty corner, but Petersfield came back again when Lane squeezed his shot past the keeper and into the corner of the goal to make it 2-2.
Southampton University won another penalty corner, but Smith made a diving save and the hosts cleared the ball away from danger.
Petersfield started the second half in a more controlled manner and let the visitors come to them.
An attacking move down the left hand side found Grinstead in the circle with both the ball and the keeper at his feet. A pass slipped to Hughes-Stanton allowed him to push the ball home into an open net, putting Petersfield in the lead.
J Atkinson then made it 4-2 when he scored with a strike at goal which was out of the goalkeeper’s reach.
Grinstead was sent to the sin bin after a foul, but Petersfield soon returned to full strength and ramped up the level of their play.
Harris then made it 5-2 when he cut through the visitors’ defence and finished an effort from close range.
