Petersfield Veterans 5 Andover Diamonds 0: IN A game of contrasting halves, Petersfield Veterans scored five goals for the second week running.

Petersfield put a lot of effort and energy into the scoreless first half, but Andover defended deeply, and in numbers, giving Petersfield’s attacking trio of Parker, Pruden and Dryden-Brownlee few opportunities.

Cornett’s introduction at the beginning of the second half gave Petersfield more width, while Hulme’s running in midfield drew the attention of the Andover defenders, giving Parker and Williams the space to express their attacking flair.

Pruden, Dryden-Brownlee and Bilsland all had good opportunities to score, before Budden drove Cornett’s simple drawback into the bottom right corner of the Andover goal.

Five minutes later, Budden scored his second with a sharp, precise finish from the top of the D.

Pruden and Parker’s tireless running, coupled with Petersfield’s midfield dominance, led the Andover defence to tire – to Budden’s benefit, again, as he scored his third and fourth, finishing off neatly worked penalty corners with deft deflections past the Andover keeper.

It was by no means one-way traffic and it took a couple of saves from Broadmeadow and goal line clearances from Hulme and Williams to prevent Andover from narrowing the lead.

Five minutes from the end, Dryden-Brownlee completed a comprehensive victory when he swept the ball in from close range.
