PETERSFIELD men’s first team are undefeated after five games and are in second place in Hampshire Area Division 3, level on points between Basingstoke II and Fareham IV with only goal difference separating the three.

In their first contest in the division, they welcomed fellow promotion contenders Fareham and they got off to a flying start.

Goals came from Douglas Ramsey (3), Patrick Edwards (2), and one each from James Atkinson, George Hughes-Stanton and Josh Edney, giving an 8-0 victory.

Next up were Wimborne with striker Alex Elms returning to good effect, scoring two goals. Petersfield’s first came from Atkinson but their hosts caused a number of unforced errors, allowing a half-time score of 2-2.

In the second half, Petersfield’s Elms took his second through a penalty strike and Edwards added to the tally. Wimborne pulled one back but Hughes-Stanton scored again for a 5-3 result.

October 17 saw Petersfield put six of the best past Fleet in another display of attacking hockey. Scorers were two each from Edwards and Elms and one apiece from Atkinson and Hughes-Stanton.

Travelling to Swanage on October 24 brought another victory but a closer 2-0 one with goals from Edwards and Elms.

Although missing a handful of key players, Petersfield rounded off the month with a 5-3 win over Yateley.

They went in at half time 2-1 down but Edwards scored an equaliser soon after the re-start. Harris then put Petersfield back on winning ways with a hat-trick, although Yateley took one too.
