ALRESFORD Town exited the North Hants Senior Cup last Tuesday night (February 7) after slipping to a 4-1 defeat at Fleet Town in the semi finals.

Rob Carr gave the hosts the lead, but the Magpies responded and soon equalised through Luke Pothecary’s goal.

The sides were level at 1-1 at half time, but the turning point came in the second half when Tom Sands was sent off for handball and Fleet were awarded a penalty.

Ben White scored the resultant penalty to give the hosts the lead.

Ben Toye made it 3-1 to the hosts, and Danilo Cadete added some gloss to the scoreline for Fleet when he made it 4-1.

Alresford produced the perfect response on Saturday though, when they won 2-1 at home to AFC Portchester in the Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division.

Steve Ramsey’s penalty gave the visitors the lead at Arlebury Park, but the Magpies equalised when Sands slotted the ball into the back of the net after an impressive passing move from the hosts.

At 1-1 the match was in the balance but Alresford landed the decisive blow when Geoff Dunn’s cross was met by Sam Burt, who applied the finishing touch to make it 2-1 and give the hosts the win.
