ALRESFORD Town finished their Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division campaign with a disappointing 6-2 defeat at Shaftesbury.

The Magpies found themselves 2-0 down early on, but Paul Coventry’s double got the away side back on level terms at half time at 2-2.

However, Shaftesbury ran away with the game in the second half and scored four unanswered goals to claim the three points.

Derick Hayford claimed a hat-trick for the home side, while Greg Peel, Aaron Lane-Laney and Elliot Bevis were also on target for Shaftesbury.

The defeat meant Alresford finished in 12th place in the final Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division table.

The Magpies won 15, drew five and lost 18 of their 38 league games to finish the season with 50 points, scoring 70 and conceding 71 goals in the process.
