ALRESFORD Town have opened up an eight-point lead at the top of the Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division after winning on Saturday.

The Magpies hit six of the best as they swept aside Solent University 6-2 at Arlebury Park.

Goals from Sam Doswell and Duarte Martins gave the Magpies a 2-0 lead, but Craig Hunt and Luke Mitchell were on target for the visitors to get Solent University back on level terms at 2-2.

Lukas McCartney, Steve Hall, Craig McAllister and Mike Gosney all scored for Alresford as the home side won.
