ALRESFORD Town had a mixed week with a cup win and a league defeat.

The Magpies started their week with a 3-0 win at home to Winchester Castle in the semi finals of the North Hants Senior Cup last Tuesday night.

Jack Nicholls, Louis Russell and Steve Hall scored the goals which sent Alresford through.

The Magpies will face Andover New Street in the North Hants Senior Cup final.

Alresford then fell to a 5-3 defeat at Fareham Town in the Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division on Saturday.

Sam Doswell gave the Magpies the lead in the 12th minute, but Gary Austin equalised for the home side on 14 minutes.

Tom Settle gave Fareham the lead in the 30th minute but Hall equalised for the away side on 48 minutes. Alresford’s Chris Mason was sent off and Ash Tattersall put Fareham 3-2 up in the 62nd minute, although Hall scored his second goal of the game on 74 minutes to make it 3-3.

The Magpies were reduced to nine men when Adam Pearson was sent off, and Settle scored his second of the game in the 86th minute to put the hosts 4-3 up. Simon Woods sealed Fareham’s win when he made it 5-3 on 90 minutes.
