ALRESFORD Town returned to the top of the table in the Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division after an impressive 3-1 win at previous leaders AFC Stoneham on Saturday afternoon.

Craig Harding gave the Magpies the lead in the 26th minute, and Duarte Martins doubled Alresford’s advantage on 46 minutes.

Ollie Dennett made it 3-0 to the visitors in the 62nd minute, before Callum Laycock pulled a goal back for Stoneham on 90 minutes.

Alresford were beaten last Tuesday night though, when they lost 3-2 at Hartley Wintney in an Aldershot Senior Cup quarter-final tie.

Ollie Dennett gave the Magpies an early lead, but two goals from Joe Gater turned the tie on its head and gave Hartley Wintney the lead.

Mike Gosney got Alresford back on level terms, but Joe Grant’s goal sent the home side through to the next round.
