ALRESFORD Town suffered cup heartbreak as they lost 3-2 against Andover New Street in the North Hants Senior Cup final last Tuesday night.
The final was held at Basingstoke Town Football Club, and the Magpies got off to the worst possible start when Andover New Street took the lead in the second minute when Jamie Coleman got the ball over the line after meeting a low cross.
Alresford responded well to the early setback and got themselves back on level terms through Paul Coventry’s brave header on nine minutes.
Both sides had chances to score again in the first half, but the teams were level at 1-1 at half time.
The Magpies started the second half well and they took the lead in the 51st minute through Sam Doswell’s header.
Andover New Street were back on level terms six minutes later when Callum Sweeney fired his free kick into the back of the net.
Alresford were reduced to ten men when goalkeeper Jordan Tewkesbury was sent off for a foul, and the Magpies suffered late heartbreak when substitute Ilyas Warshow fired home to give Andover New Street the cup.
Alresford were unable to bounce back from their cup defeat on Saturday afternoon, when they crashed to a comprehensive 5-2 defeat at home to Team Solent in the Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division.
Conor Whiteley and Coventry scored for the Magpies, but goals from Hisham Kasimu (3), Silvano Obeng and Aiden Harris gave the visitors the three points.
