Egham Town 3 Petersfield Town 0: It was another tough night at the office for Petersfield Town as they fell to their third defeat in seven days on Tuesday night.

Two goals conceded at the beginning of the second half killed off their chances of getting anything from this match – something which is becoming a worryingly reoccurring theme for the Rams.

Petersfield started the match relatively brightly but as the game wore on their frustrations became more apparent as the reality the game was going to end in another defeat sunk in.

Egham had the early chances when Jordan Ajanlekoko had a free header in front of goal after only two minutes but he put his effort straight into keeper Aaron Bufton’s arms.

Luke Neville also had a free header in front of goal, this time created from a corner on the left, but he put his effort well over the crossbar.

The home side got their noses in front on 15 minutes when a quick ball forward put Brendan Matthew clear of the Petersfield defence and he ran on before putting his low shot under Bufton and into the far corner of the net.

Petersfield looked lively up front when they got the ball forward and on one attack Dan Simmonds played the ball to the left where Alex Miroy delivered a good inswinging cross which just beat the leaps of Simmonds and Callum Coker.

Matthew should have had his second goal of the night on 28 minutes when he was given a free header in front of goal but he put his effort straight at Bufton where if it had gone either side of the Rams keeper he would have scored.

Bufton then produced a save of the season contender from Wes Daly’s free kick from the edge of the penalty area. The keeper was diving the wrong way but managed to stick a firm hand out in the opposite direction to ensure the shot did not cross the line.

Matthew had another chance to score three minutes before half time when he was sent clear behind the Petersfield defence and although his shot from an acute angle beat Bufton it went into the side netting.

Any chances of a Petersfield comeback in the second period evaporated inside the first 60 seconds after the restart. The Rams lost the ball on the left and it was quickly worked up to the edge of the box from where Matthew fired his shot home into the top right hand corner.

Egham’s persistence got them their third goal five minutes later when a number of attempts to get inside the penalty area were half blocked but the ball eventually bounced up invitingly for Reece Yorke, who put his header over Bufton and into the net.

The only chance of note after this fell to Harry Giles late on but he pulled his shot well wide of the target when well placed on the edge of the penalty area.

Petersfield: Bufton, B Neal, Graham, Giles, Page (Needham), Searle, Whittingham, Green, Miroy (Kendall), Simmonds, Coker (Judd).
