Badshot Lea manager Gavin Smith blasted his side after they exited the FA Trophy on penalties in the third qualifying round on Saturday.

The Baggies had been on an impressive six-match winning run before the game, but they produced a surprisingly flat performance as they exited the FA Trophy.

The Baggies drew 0-0 at home to Redbridge before losing 4-1 on penalties on Saturday, and Smith was left unimpressed with the lack of quality on display from his side.

“I’m fuming if I’m honest because that is the worst I’ve ever seen us play,” said Smith.

“In two or three years that is the worst performance against a team that was there to be beaten – we were poor.

“Not one player comes out with any credit and I knew we would lose.

“I thought we were lucky last week against Raynes Park – we didn’t get what we deserved, they gave us the game last week and it wasn’t good enough. This week I knew we would lose on penalties. We deserved to lose the game.

“We didn’t have a shot on goal – people’s quality was horrendous.

“We were really poor and they didn’t have to do anything special. The annoying thing is I know the qualities we’ve got – but not one of them showed it. Every single one of them – their quality was horrendous.

“They couldn’t step up in the penalty shoot-out and put penalties away. Redbridge could, so they deserved to go through.”

The Baggies host Chipstead in the Isthmian League South Central Division at Westfield Lane on Saturday afternoon (3pm), and Smith is demanding a much-improved performance from his side.

“That same group of players can’t go out and put in the same performance,” he said.

The Baggies have lost the services of influential midfielder Billy Oram, who left the club before Saturday’s game to sign for Merstham.

Smith is disappointed to see him go, but understands the reasons for the move.

“Billy’s gone to Merstham, which is disappointing – but I get it,” said Smith.

“They wanted him in pre-season with the other manager and it’s more local to him, so it made sense. We can’t do anything about that.”
