Badshot Lea manager Gavin Smith was delighted to see his side make a swift return to winning ways with a 3-1 victory at Ashford Town in the Isthmian League South Central Division on Thursday night.

The Baggies had crashed to a 6-1 defeat at Northwood on Tuesday night after winning 4-0 at home to Northwood on Saturday, but they responded to Tuesday’s setback with an immediate return to winning ways.

Smith’s side trailed 1-0 at the break through Juwon Akintunde’s goal, but the visitors roared back in the second half with three unanswered goals.

Lamin Ceesay equalised for the Baggies in the 50th minute, before Josh Keeya scored from the penalty spot on 64 minutes to give the visitors the lead.

Baback Dehghani sealed the three points for the Baggies when he made it 3-1 in the 85th minute with a cool finish.

“It was the reaction to Tuesday night we wanted to see,” said Smith.

“The pitch wasn’t the easiest to play on. We were 1-0 down at half-time and were caught out a couple of times trying to play the way we like to play. At half-time we said we need to spin a few balls in behind, and we went and got three goals in the second half. Lamin scored from a corner, which was pleasing, and Josh put the penalty away well. Babs took his goal well with a good finish.”

Next up for the Baggies is a trip to bottom side Corinthian Casuals in the Isthmian League South Central Division on Saturday (3pm).
