PETERSFIELD Town fought back to salvage a point at Fawley AFC on Saturday, despite being far from their best.
The Rams nearly took the lead when Charlie Merritt’s deflected cross bounced off the top of the crossbar and back into play.
Fawley opened the scoring on 14 minutes. Dec Hartigan picked the ball up and turned his man in the area before superbly lifting it over Rams keeper Matt Petts.
The hosts nearly doubled their lead when Hartigan squared the ball in the six-yard box to Lewis Connors, but he skewed his effort wide.
Petersfield did have their moments in the first half, and Jordan Neal’s header was cleared off the line by Fawley.
The hosts finished the half strongly and Hartigan’s powerful effort was heading for the top left-hand corner, but Petts pushed the ball wide.
The Rams improved in the second half, and they duly equalised in the 61st minute. Jordan Geddes got his head to a corner, leading to a scramble in the box before Matt Low stabbed the ball in.
Fawley pressed for a winner and Keiron Roche weaved his way into the area, but he dragged his effort wide.
Roche had another chance but his effort was stopped by a block from makeshift right-back Will Webb, who chased Roche down before sliding in to block his effort.
