HORNDEAN manager Michael Birmingham is pleased with his side’s efforts as the end of the season fast approaches.

The Deans enjoyed a good week as they picked up four points from two Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division matches.

Horndean started their week with a 0-0 draw at home to league champions Sholing last Tuesday night.

The Five Heads Park outfit then won 3-0 at home to Shaftesbury on Saturday afternoon.

Sam Hookey broke the deadlock for the Deans in the 19th minute, and Jack Lee doubled the home side’s advantage on 34 minutes.

Sean McMonagle completed the scoring when he made it 3-0 to the Deans in the 61st minute.

Horndean manager Michael Birmingham said: “We were excellent against Sholing and we limited them to one attack on our goal.

“It was important we then didn’t drop our levels against Shaftesbury. We were missing Benny Read, Jack Maloney and Connor Duffin on Saturday, but Sean came in and did ever so well.

“We were also pleased to keep two clean sheets.”

Horndean are flying high in the Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division, although they are facing a strong challenge from Bournemouth for second place in the league, and Birmingham wants his side to finish the season well.

He said: “We need three points from our last three games to seal third place. We are looking at second place, but Bournemouth are having a wonderful season.”
