PETERSFIELD Town manager Mark Summerhill was disappointed with his side’s performance after they drew 1-1 at Fawley AFC in Division One of the Sydenhams Wessex League on Saturday.

Summerhill admitted his side were far from their best, but he was pleased they were still able to pick something up from the game for their efforts. “On the way there I said I’d take a point, but we didn’t play well,” said Summerhill.

“Perhaps we are a victim of our own success as the squad was stretched on Saturday.

“Kris Stevens was suspended and Michael Wright was not available. Sean Burton came in at centre half but he pulled his hamstring, and Jake Bourton pulled his hamstring.

“We had to make too many changes to the back four, so we were always up against it.

“Ollie Kershaw was carrying an injury, and we never got going from start to finish.

“We didn’t defend well and we didn’t pick people up.

“At half time we were lucky to only be 1-0 down. We made some changes at half time and brought Harry Tremlett on, and he made a big difference.

“Fawley probably should have won the game, but Matt Petts made some great saves.

“Harry aggravated his injury, but we somehow managed to cling on for a point and that’s six wins and a draw in the past seven league games.

“I’ve said all along if we can win at home and pick up points away we’ll do well.

“We were lucky to get out of there with a point, although we were pressing towards the end and we started the second half brightly.

“Overall we rode our luck though, so I have to be happy with a point.”

Summerhill was pleased with his side’s efforts at AFC Totton last Wednesday night, despite his side being beaten 2-1 in the Russell Cotes Cup second round tie.

The Rams faced an AFC Totton side who play two levels above them in Division One South of the BetVictor Southern League, and Summerhill was happy with how his side acquitted themselves against higher-ranked opposition.

“We did well and I was really proud of the boys,” he said. “We played very well and should have been level at half time. It was pretty even.

“In the last minute we should have had a penalty. Jordan Neal was taken out in the box and that would have been a chance to make it 2-2.

“I do think Wednesday’s efforts took their toll on us on Saturday though.”
