HORNDEAN boss Michael Birmingham remained positive after his side exited the FA Cup with a 2-0 defeat against Bodmin Town.
Adam Carter’s first half brace was enough to give the visitors the win at Five Heads Park in the First Qualifying Round tie.
The Deans pushed forward in the second half as they searched for a route back into the tie, but Bodmin held firm to seal their place in the Second Qualifying Round.
“We had a suicidal 15 minutes when the damage was done,” said Birmingham.
“Fair play to Bodmin, the first goal came from an unbelievable cross from their left back. It was a wonderful delivery.
“At 1-0 down we searched for the equaliser and didn’t take enough care and we were picked off for the second goal.
“We dominated the rest of the first half and the second half, but they defended magnificently.
“We didn’t have enough penetration, but that has been one of our strong points this season.”
The Deans beat Melksham Town in the Extra Preliminary Round of the FA Cup and Binfield in the Preliminary Round, and Birmingham is pleased with his side’s efforts in the competition.
He added: “The FA Cup has been great for us and a lot of people have never played in the FA Cup.
“Yes OK we would have liked to have gone further, but Horndean Football Club have done very well.”
