Petersfield Town 0 Whitchurch United 1: PETERSFIELD Town slipped to a home defeat against Whitchurch United in the heat on Saturday afternoon.

The visitors had the first opportunity of the game when Jamie Blackburn cut in from the right and pulled the trigger, although Kris Stephens timed his challenge to perfection to block the shot.

On 27 minutes the Rams almost took the lead. Olly Kershaw picked up the ball on the right and delivered a beautiful cross to Harry Tremlett, who took a touch and his shot hit the crossbar and went over.

Minutes later Tremlett had another excellent opportunity. Will Essai did magnificently on the wing, beating multiple players with fine skill to get inside the box and square the ball to Tremlett, who fired over.

The visitors won a corner just before the break, and a strong header was cleared off the line at the near post to keep the game goalless.

Whitchurch scored the first and only goal of the game after 58 minutes. The Rams gave away a cheap free kick on the left hand side of the area, and Aaron Randall hit his free kick up and over the wall and into the top corner.

Petersfield tried to get themselves back on level terms and Marvin Orepo got the ball in the penalty area, but Whitchurch keeper Konrad Szyniak blocked his effort from a narrow angle.

Deep into added time the Rams won a corner, but the header was blocked by two players on the line and cleared as the visitors hung on for the three points.
