Clanfield 1 Fleetlands 2: A GOAL in each half was enough for Fleetlands to take the three points against Clanfield at Peel Park on Saturday.

Both teams cancelled each other out until the 15th minute, when Fleetlands’ Jamie Wrapson ran on to a through ball and finished well past Gareth Wiseman.

Clanfield responded well and had some good opportunities, but they could not take advantage of their good play.

The second half started slowly, until a lack of concentration from Clanfield. Fleetlands took a quick throw-in, and with Clanfield out of shape Perry Easton scored with a deflected shot on 65 minutes.

Clanfield continued to battle away and they pulled a goal back in the 90th minute. A corner drilled in by Owen Milne was met on the volley by Ross Caldwell with a good finish into the bottom corner.

Clanfield manager Lee Blakely said: “I’m disappointed with the performance and lack of quality when we had the ball. There is not a lot of difference between us and the top-half teams but we seem to switch off at crucial moments in the game and it is costing us massively lately in the league.

“The second goal was a poor one to concede and we got involved with a referee decision instead of forgetting about it and keeping our discipline.

“I can’t fault the effort and attitude from the lads, which has been good all season, but football is about getting results/points and we need to get better when these crucial moments happen in the game with better quality and discipline.”
