CLANFIELD travelled to Chamberlayne Athletic on Saturday looking for three points to consolidate their mid-table position.
The visitors hadn’t played for three weeks, but they were hoping to produce a good performance.
Clanfield started the game brightly and looked threatening from the off. They deservedly took the lead with a turn and shot from the edge of the box from Owen Milne.
The visitors were in complete control early on, although their match sharpness was not at its usual level.
Chamberlayne were handed a way back into the game late in the first half when a free kick was conceded 40 yards out. The home side equalised from the free kick after a bit of pin ball in the box.
The second half was tough for both teams as the strong winds picked up, and the pitch proved tough to play on.
Clanfield continued to look dangerous, though, and after missing some good chances the visitors scored a winner when Milne squared the ball across the box to Oli Glover, who composed himself to find the bottom corner.
Clanfield manager Lee Blakely said: “Three points was all that mattered and that’s what we got.
“We were always going to be a bit off the pace with no game time recently and got frustrated by this as a team, but we sorted it and got the points, which we fully deserved.
“We’re now looking forward to facing the in-form Hayling United next week, which will be a great test for us.”
