CLANFIELD finally managed to get their Hampshire Senior Trophy fourth round game against Sholing Reserves played, with a place in the quarter finals up for grabs.

In tough conditions at Peel Park, Clanfield advanced through to the next round with a spirited 4-3 win.

The game was scrappy early on, but Clanfield made the breakthrough when a direct ball over the top found Owen Milne, who opened the scoring at the second attempt.

Sholing Reserves equalised soon afterwards with a 30-yard shot that hit the underside of the bar and crossed the line.

The home side regained the lead when Jake Hughes’ ball down the channel found Milne, who rounded the keeper and put the ball in the net.

Clanfield started the second half sloppily, and the game turned on its head when the visitors scored two quick goals to take the lead.

First Harry Chandler gave away a penalty for the equaliser, and then soon afterwards a Sholing striker found space in the box and his effort found the bottom corner.

The hosts got themselves back on level terms when Phil Chandler was brought down in the box and Oli Amos equalised from the penalty spot.

This gave Clanfield their confidence back and Luke Grice scored the winning goal after a back pass was completely missed by the Sholing keeper and Grice tapped into an empty net.

Clanfield manager Lee Blakely said: “It was just about the result and getting through to the quarter finals.

“It was never going to be pretty in the tough conditions but I thought the lads’ desire and commitment to win the game was the difference between the sides.”
