PETERSFIELD Town chairman Graeme Moir has paid tribute to the club’s new commercial manager who is helping to put the Southern League outfit on a firmer financial footing.

The Rams appointed David MacAskill to the role in July and he has already had a big impact at Love Lane.

Special season ticket offers and a new social membership scheme have brought more people through the turnstiles this season so far.

He has also been working on building new relationships within the community, including closer ties with Petersfield Town Juniors and this has led to their ladies team playing matches in the Love Lane stadium.

Moir has stressed to supporters that bringing someone in to boost the commercial side of the club has been an absolutely vital signing for the club.

The Rams chairman explained: “Unstable financial situations at the club is something that has been mentioned at various times since the 1990s.

“What we must do is ensure the club is financially sustainable and David is helping us to achieve this.

“The step up to Southern League football has highlighted that the club must become more of a business to succeed at this level.

“All of the things David has done – season tickets, memberships, merchandise and closer community links – are part of our plans to make the club stronger.”
