PETERSFIELD Town manager Mark Summerhill was full of praise for his side after they extended their unbeaten run to ten games.

The Rams beat Fleetlands 4-1 in the Portsmouth Senior Cup last Tuesday night, before winning 2-0 at Newport IOW in the league on Saturday.

The two wins mean Petersfield have won nine and drawn one of their past ten games.

“It’s another tick in the box for us,” said Summerhill.

“We’ve beaten teams in the league above, had away wins and home wins, but to win on the island is a fantastic result.

“Travelling to the island I would have taken a point, so to get all three was phenomenal.

“To go on a ten-game unbeaten run at any level of football is phenomenal.”

Summerhill admitted his side had to work hard for the win at Newport.

“We weren’t at our best, far from it,” he said. “It was a hostile ground with hostile supporters. We were met with a wall of aggression.

“In the first half we didn’t defend well, but in the second half Jordan Geddes and Kris Stevens were on the top of their game. We got to grips with defending and we got a foothold in the game.”

Summerhill explained he made a tactical change during the game to give his side a different dimension.

“In the second half we brought Jordan Neal on to give us some brute force,” said Summerhill.

“Marvin Orepo started the game up top to give us pace, but we put Marvin out wide and Jordan Neal up top and it worked a treat.

“We had a real strong core in the team with pace out wide.

“Our three substitutes, Jordan Neal, Michael Wright and Sean Burton, all made an impact and did very well.

“I’m able to make substitutions without weakening the team. We can make key changes at key times.”

The Rams boss was also pleased with how his side saw off Fleetlands.

“Fleetlands was another really pleasing one as it was a real potential banana skin,” said Summerhill.

“We had five players away, but I still picked the strongest 11 I had available. We were fitter and stronger. It was the first time we’ve looked a level above someone. They had players cramping up. We scored a brilliant second goal through Cam Smith, and in the second half we were really strong and were a level too good. It was really pleasing.”
