New Milton Town 0 Petersfield Town 0: THE RAMS put in their most dominant display of the season at New Milton Town on Saturday, but an inspired display from the home goalkeeper, Luke Dennison, meant they had to settle for a draw.
Having had three postponements in a row the Rams looked keen to be back in action as they took the game to their hosts from the start.
Despite their dominance Petersfield had to wait until the 14th minute for their first real chance when Michael Wright headed over from a Matt Low cross.
A minute later Will Webb put a shot wide, and in the 21st minute the visitors went closer still when a Low shot hit the crossbar.
New Milton’s sporadic attacks were comfortably dealt with by the Petersfield defence, and it was not until the 34th minute that Matt Petts in the Rams’ goal was seriously called into action as he did well to hold a Callum Horton free kick.
As half time approached Dennison saved comfortably from a Will Essai shot and a minute later he produced his best save so far, tipping over a shot from Wright.
The second half carried on in much the same vein with the Rams having most of the play, pinning New Milton in their own half.
In the 56th minute a header from Harry Tremlett brought another fine save from Dennison, and when John Grace was sent off in the 68th minute for a bad tackle it became one way traffic with Petersfield constantly attacking with some excellent build-up play.
It seemed only a matter of time before the visitors would break through.
On 71 minutes Olly Kershaw replaced Essai, and he was soon in the action when in the 75th minute a Tremlett shot hit the post and Kershaw’s follow-up effort was deflected wide for a corner.
In the 85th minute Low went close, and two minutes later Dennison produced another good save to deny Kershaw.
On 88 minutes Webb, who had worked tirelessly on the right flank, put his shot over, and as the game went into added time Tremlett’s shot on the turn produced another fine save from Dennison.
A couple of break away attacks from New Milton in the final minutes caused some alarm in Petersfield’s ranks, but the game finished goalless.
