HORNDEAN produced a stunning comeback to earn a dramatic 4-3 win at Portland United in the Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division on Saturday afternoon.

The Deans looked dead and buried when they were 3-0 down at half time, but they came back in the second half to take all three points.

Lee Sharpe (2) and Tom Bearwish scored the goals which gave the hosts a 3-0 lead at the break.

Josh Maloney pulled a goal back for Horndean in the 55th minute, and Benny Read made it 3-2 on 57 minutes. The equaliser arrived when Maloney scored his second of the afternoon in the 69th minute, and the comeback was complete when Tyler Moret scored on 83 minutes to make it 4-3.

Horndean boss Michael Birmingham said: “We won the toss and played against the wind in the first half. We conceded a sloppy first goal and our performance in the first half was not acceptable.

“We made three changes at half time and we had the wind behind us in the second half. We showed our team spirit in the second half and that we are all there for each other. We scored two quick goals and Portland started to crumble.”
