Uxbridge 4 Petersfield Town 1: Petersfield were beaten almost as soon as this Division 1 Central game kicked-off last Tuesday night.

They found themselves 2-0 down inside the first ten minutes and despite putting in a decent display for the rest of the first half, they conceded again four minutes before the interval.

Rams keeper George Hill began a busy night after just four minutes when he had to get down low to push away Mitchell Wiseman’s low shot from a free kick.

The home side were in front three minutes later after the visitors failed to clear their lines and Matty Woods got in behind the defence and lifted his shot over Hill and into the net.

Uxbridge only had to wait two more minutes to get their second when Woods got clear again. Hill blocked his first effort but the home striker reacted quickest to flick the rebound into the net.

The Petersfield defence let a long ball get the better of them again moments later and although Abobaker Eisa got clear, Hill made himself big and smothered the home player’s effort. The Rams keeper had to be on his toes again when Jon-Jo Bates tried his luck on goal but the keeper pushed his effort to safety.

The Rams came more into the game as the half wore on and on 37 minutes Dan Simmonds broke clear and hit a low shot which Paul McCarthy saved easily. Alex Miroy then had a goal disallowed for offside.

It was 3-0 on 41 minutes after the ball had been moved quickly down the left and when it was played inside the penalty area Eisa’s initial shot was blocked but he tucked away the rebound from close range.

Petersfield still kept going despite the scoreline and they almost pulled a goal back two minutes into the second half when a low cross was fired across the face of the goal and Ryan Woodford couldn’t quite connect with the ball at the far post to turn it in.

The Rams did pull a goal back on 68 minutes when Ben Neal was sent tumbling over inside the box and Simmonds sent the keeper the wrong way with his spot kick.

However, Uxbridge snuffed out any ideas the Rams had of a second half fightback when they scored again nine minutes later. Good build up play through the middle saw Aaron McLeish put clear and he used his pace to create space for himself to smash the ball into the net.
