United Services Portsmouth 1 Petersfield Town 1: PETERSFIELD Town picked up a good point at league leaders United Services Portsmouth on Monday night.
The Rams started on the front foot, and Harry Tremlett had a half-chance he put over.
It took the visitors 17 minutes to take the lead. Matt Low latched on to a through ball and ran at goal, with United Services captain Tom Jeffes bringing him down in the area. Will Essai stepped up and slotted past keeper Tom Price.
It took the hosts only five minutes to equalise. A corner looked to be poorly defended, and Jeffes made up for giving away the penalty and stuck the ball in the roof of the net.
The Rams went back on the attack with Essai playing a well-timed through ball to Michael Wright. Wright took it into the area and cut back and forced a good block by the onrushing Price.
The visitors created another chance when Tremlett had a free header which went wide.
The start of the second half saw a rejuvenated United Services side attempt to dominate. Petersfield defended well, though, and gradually got back in the game.
A strong midfield battle meant there were limited chances at either end.
Petersfield defended well and threw their bodies on the line to earn a well-deserved point.
