Farnham Town came from behind to draw 1-1 against National League Yeovil Town in a pre-season friendly.

Sam Evans’ second-half equaliser cancelled out Brett McGavin’s first-half opener as honours finished even at The Memorial Ground.

The Glovers had the first attempt at goal of the evening in the fourth minute when Zain Westbrooke won a loose ball and laid it off to McGavin, who fired his long-range effort over the bar.

Farnham manager Paul Johnson was forced into an early enforced change on 11 minutes, with Jack Dean replacing the injured Dan Bayliss.

Yeovil had their second attempt of the evening in the 18th minute when Dan Ellison’s lofted pass in behind Farnham’s defence found Luke McCormick, whose attempted lob was comfortably held by Farnham keeper James Shaw.

The Glovers broke the deadlock in spectacular style on 24 minutes when McGavin curled his free-kick past the diving Shaw into the left-hand corner of the net.

Yeovil nearly doubled their advantage on 28 minutes when Westbrooke’s ball over the top played in McCormick, whose dink was held by Shaw.

The Glovers went close again in the 40th minute when Johl Powell’s curling right-footed effort from the edge of the box went just wide of the right-hand post.

The Town made the perfect start to the second half and equalised on 48 minutes when Trae Cook-Appiah drove forward down the right wing and fired the ball across the face of goal to Evans, who calmly tapped his finish home past Yeovil keeper Jos Barker from close range.

Johnson made five substitutions on the hour mark, with Michael Eacott, Darryl Sanders, Sam Hutchinson, Bobby-Joe Taylor and Rakish Bingham replacing Shaw, Billy Clifford, Miles Obodo, Owen Dean and Evans.

Bingham almost made an instant impact in the 62nd minute when he won a loose ball just inside Yeovil’s half and tried to lob Barker, but his effort went just wide of the right-hand post.

The Glovers nearly regained the lead on 68 minutes when McGavin’s reverse pass played in Stephen Walker, who drilled his effort just wide of the far post.

Johnson made his seventh substitution of the evening on 73 minutes, with a trialist replacing Cook-Appiah.

Neither side were able to find a late winner as honours finished even.

Next up for Farnham is a pre-season friendly at home to National League outfit Eastleigh on Saturday, August 1 (3pm kick-off).
