Farnham Town manager Paul Johnson was delighted with his side’s performance after they beat Step 3 side Kingstonian 3-1 in the third round of the Surrey Senior Cup last Tuesday night (February 6).
Town produced a confident performance to beat their Isthmian League Premier Division opponents at The Memorial Ground.
Farnham took the lead in the 16th minute when Lewis Flatman curled his shot into the bottom corner of the net.
Town were then awarded a penalty on 27 minutes.
Harry Cooksley’s penalty was saved, but Cooksley confidently tucked home the rebound to double Farnham’s advantage.
Eddie Dsare pulled a goal back for Kingstonian in the 43rd minute to make it 2-1 at half-time.
Adam Liddle sealed Farnham’s place in the next round when he thumped home at the near post on 80 minutes to make it 3-1.
“We were good on the night and deserved the win,” said Johnson.
“Kingstonian started brightly and caused us some problems in the first 15 minutes with the speed of their play – which we’re not really used to in our league.
“They also had done their analysis on us well.
“We soon adjusted to that though and got ourselves ahead with a good goal.
“I had a feeling Harry’s penalty might be saved, but he tucked away the rebound well.
“Kingstonian got the goal back, but the third goal was coming for us.
“Kai Tanner had a good chance, and we could have got four or five in the end.”
Farnham were frustrated by the weather last Saturday (February 10) when their Combined Counties Premier Division South match at home to Cobham was postponed.
“There was a little patch the match officials were not happy with and they called the game off,” said Johnson.
Farnham travel to bottom side Colliers Wood United in the Combined Counties Premier Division South today (Saturday), but Johnson has warned his side not to take the basement boys lightly.
“Saturday is a massive free hit for Colliers Wood,” said Johnson.
“We’re top of the league and are there to be shot at and in the past three or four weeks teams have been trying to stop our winning run as it’s had quite a lot of coverage.”
