Folland Sports 0 Petersfield Town 5: PETERSFIELD Town recorded their biggest victory of the season by sticking five past bottom of the table side Folland Sports on Saturday in Division One of the Sydenhams Wessex League.
The visitors went into the game looking for their first win in eight games, and they started the match positively.
The game started with both sides having chances as Rams keeper Matt Petts palmed away a strong free kick and Matt Low hit the side netting from a tight angle.
The Rams put their hosts under pressure, but Folland broke on the counter attack when Clayd Roach went through on goal with only Petts to beat. Petts advanced and made a fingertip save, sending the ball just over the bar.
Harry Tremlett had a deflected effort that was well held by the Folland keeper, and Petts was called into action in the latter stages of the half.
Petersfield eventually got the lead they deserved. A scruffy corner in the 35th minute fell to Marvin Orepo, who had two efforts blocked.
The deflected clearance fell to Will Webb, who smashed the ball under the keeper to open the scoring.
The Rams doubled their lead before half time after Jordan Geddes chested the ball down and delivered a lobbed through ball to Low.
He was about to shoot but he had his legs taken away and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Low stepped up and sent the ball into the bottom left-hand corner.
The visitors continued to have the momentum in the second half and enjoyed a lot of space in the attacking third.
Tremlett slotted Orepo in, but with the goal gaping he slipped and the chance went begging.
However, the third goal came soon afterwards. Poor defending saw a cross bounce right over the last man and Webb had time to set himself and fire the ball into the corner of the goal.
As the game slipped away from Folland, the last defender let the ball go to Low.
With only the keeper to beat, Low beat the Folland keeper with ease to the delight of the travelling fans.
The Rams looked comfortable, which gave manager Mark Summerhill the opportunity to make changes. Will Essai came off the bench as he made his return from injury, and he latched on to a good passing move but his sweeping effort was well saved.
Rams substitute Jordan Neal bagged the last goal in the 85th minute. Low advanced down the right and his shot was parried by the keeper, but Neal bundled the ball into the net to cap a fine five-star performance by the visitors.
n Petersfield Town reserve team’s good run of results came to an end as they produced a disappointing performance in a 3-2 defeat against Fleetlands’ reserves team at Love Lane on Saturday.
The youth team had an excellent 2-1 victory away to Moneyfields’ youth team on Sunday.
The reserves will hope to return to winning ways when they host United Services Portsmouth Reserves at Love Lane on Saturday (3pm).
