Petersfield Town 5 Downton 0: PETERSFIELD Town returned to league action last Saturday with the visit of Downton and put in one of their best performances of the season to record an emphatic victory.

Petersfield could have gone ahead as early as the first minute when a shot from Gari Judd forced a save from keeper Lewis Gunstone-Grey.

In the 18th minute, Downton thought they had won a penalty when Lascelles Richardson appeared to be brought down in the box but the referee took a different view and booked the player for diving.

In the 25th minute the Rams took the lead when Will Essai played in Harry Giles who calmly slotted the ball home.

Downton’s problems worsened in the 35th minute when Jacob Rasheedi was sent off for elbowing Olly Kershaw in the face.

The Rams increasingly took control and, in the 43rd minute, Ryan Kennedy scored from close range to double their advantage.

Petersfield increased their lead in the 48th minute when a superb move ended with a powerful header from Judd. As the game entered the final quarter the Rams began to reassert themselves, extinguishing any thoughts of a Downton comeback.

Their pressure paid off when in the 79th minute Kennedy scored his second, and the Rams’ fourth goal, with Josh Sheehan adding a fifth in the 83rd minute to complete the scoring.
