REACTIONS to the question of what have been the most memorable days for people in the Emirates FA Cup have brought a range of memories flooding back.

In the build up to Saturday’s tie against St Albans City, we have been asking the Petersfield coaching staff and players to recall their best days in the world’s most famous cup competition.

Some have cast their minds back to over 20 years ago, delving into the dark recesses of their brains to bring back a memorable match or moment in answer to our queries.

However, first team coach Shane Brayson only has to think back less than a fortnight ago to recall his favourite day in the FA Cup.

If he told you ‘it seems like only yesterday’ that’s because it practically was.

Brayson’s best memory was watching the side he coaches beat Evo-Stik League Southern outfit Cirencester Town 3-1 at Love Lane on September 19.

He doesn’t have any playing memories to call on as the closest he got to appearing in the FA Cup was as an unused substitute.

However, he is full of praise for the Petersfield players who pulled off another giantkilling result in their historic cup run.

“In the last round our players showed their true steel and determination that day to get the result.

“It was a pleasure to be just a small part of that.”

On the day Anthony Ender kept out almost every shot that came his way.

In defence, Lewis Hyde, Sean Wain, Dan Sackman and Jamie Ford repelled every form of attack that the visitors threw in their direction and the midfield of Joe Richardson, Alek Przespolewski and Stuart Green ran themselves into the ground to ensure Cirencester’s players were denied space and time on the ball.

Michael Dixon caused the visitors constant problems while fellow striker Howard Neighbour got the crucial second goal to put the Rams back in front after the visitors had equalised.

Joe Briggs continued his fantastic form in the competition by scoring another two goals to put Petersfield into the next round.

Brayson is proud of the achievements of the players so far in this record FA Cup run and he is hoping for another good day on Saturday.

He added: “The lads involved in the club are what’s important to me and I’m looking forward to Saturday and giving it a damn good go.”
