Petersfield Town 4 Fleetlands 1: PETERSFIELD Town beat Fleetlands at Love Lane in the Portsmouth Senior Cup last Tuesday night.

The Rams took the lead after seven minutes when Will Essai showed a good burst of pace to get into the box. Essai threaded a pass through to Matt Low, who tapped home.

Minutes later the home side had a good chance to double their lead, but Jordan Neal’s drive was well parried away by Joshua Whitehead.

Tommy Woodward had the ball on the left for the visitors and whipped in a cross to Matt Andrews, but Matt Petts made a fine reaction block.

Petersfield then won a corner, but Neal’s glancing header went past the post.

The Rams doubled their lead when Gari Judd held up a long ball and rolled the ball to Cameron Smith, who scored with a powerful effort into the top corner.

Petersfield were looking comfortable, but Ryan Kennedy gave away a cheap penalty when he pulled the Fleetlands striker down in the area. Andrews slotted underneath Petts to make it 2-1.

In the second half Low’s chipped cross found Judd. His cushioned header was heading for the top corner, but Whitehead made a superb fingertip save.

With Fleetlands tiring they left Judd unmarked from a throw in. Judd took a touch and delivered a peach of a cross to Neal. Whitehead came out but was beaten as the ball bounced into an empty net to make it 3-1 to the home side.

Petersfield’s fourth goal of the night came courtesy of Will Webb in the 78th minute. He shifted the ball from right to left before getting his shot away and fortunately for the Rams, the effort took a big deflection, which took it past the Fleetlands keeper.
