A MONTH ago he was trying to keep the forwards of the United States quiet in a World Cup qualifying match.
Now defender Shawn Benjamin’s task is to shore up Petersfield’s leaky defence and shut out the strikers of the Southern League.
Benjamin completed a move to Love Lane from Wessex League Premier Division side Moneyfields last week.
He went straight into the team to make his debut in the FA?Trophy tie at Winchester City on Saturday.
He made an instant impression for his new team with an impressive performance which helped to earn the Rams a replay.
Benjamin plays his international football for St Vincent and the Grenadines, who were beaten 6-0 by the United States at the beginning of September.
Four days later he earned his latest cap in a 9-3 defeat to Guatemala in another World Cup qualifier.
His international experience could prove to be vital as Petersfield look to climb away from the bottom of Division 1 Central. The Rams have conceded 33 goals in the 11 league games they have played so far.
They are at home in the league to Royston Town this Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
They are also at home next Tuesday evening when they take on Eversley and California in the first round of the Russell Cotes Cup – kick-off 7.45pm.
