LISS Athletic’s hopes of promotion to the Wessex League could be over after the league raised issues with their ground.
Liss play their football at the Newman Collard Playing Fields, and the Wessex League have insisted that the club must install a fence around the pitch if they want to join the league next season.
Liss manager Rich Bessey said: “The Wessex League say we have to have a perimeter fence around the pitch, but the Newman Collard Trust won’t allow us to put the fence up.
“If this is a health and safety argument I understand it, but if it’s because we can’t charge people to watch our games I can’t understand it as we are the ones losing out.”
Bessey is currently considering two options that could allow the club to be promoted.
“We’ve approached Petersfield Town to see if we can ground share with them,” said Bessey.
“Our first team would play their games at Love Lane, and our other teams would stay in Liss.
“We are also seeing if the Wessex League will let us put up a temporary fence for match days only.
“The players have agreed to stay until the end of the season, but if we can’t get promoted I can see players leaving.”
