Downton 1 Petersfield Town 1: A SPIRITED display at in- form Downton last Tuesday night saw the Rams pick up a well-deserved point.
The match started at a lively pace with both sides keen to gain the upper hand.
As the match progressed Downton began to dominate with their attractive passing game causing problems whereas the Rams were guilty of trying to force the pace and their play became disjointed.
In the 23rd minute Tom Moseley broke down the left-hand side and in an attempt to clear the danger Rams keeper Nick Hall brought him down. It appeared the foul was outside the box but the referee gave a penalty which Moseley calmly despatched.
Despite going behind, the Rams did not drop their heads and began to play more composed football.
Their best chance came in the 43rd minute when Jordan Geddes ghosted in to meet a Richard Covey free-kick but his header went over the bar.
Petersfield’s hopes of getting something from the game were dealt a blow in the 62nd minute when Geddes was sent off.
Although Downton continued to pass the ball well they did not seem able to make the extra man count and the Rams kept plugging away with Matt Rowland always posing a threat. In the 78th minute they drew level when Luca Williams played in Rowland who netted with a well-placed shot.
In a tense finish both sides had chances but the Rams defended well to keep Downton out.
