HAVANT under-15 District Schools have won the Wright Cup after beating Portsmouth District in the final.
The Havant under-15 District Schools side have now been successful throughout the under-13, under-14 and under-15 age groups.
At the beginning of the season the team was due to be disbanded as a number of the players had been lost to academies, however four of the fathers grouped together and sought permission from Hampshire schools for the boys to continue to play together for the last season.
In the route to the final of the Wright Cup Havant beat Eastleigh 1-0 in the quarter finals and Southampton 4-2 in the semi finals.
This competition was open to other district sides and Portsmouth District and Havant District both got through to the final, which was held at Havant and Waterlooville Football Club.
The final was a closely contested game with Havant District winning 2-1 thanks to goals from Bailey Newbury and Joe Martin.
Havant under-15 District Schools manager David Hedley said: “Our thanks go to Havant and Waterlooville Football Club for the loan of such a fantastic venue and to The Petersfield School (TPS) and headteacher Mark Marande for his support in providing the venue for the home matches.”
The Havant under-15 District Schools side have also reached the final of the League Cup, which is due to be played against Aldershot on Saturday, May 20, in Alton.
