Romsey Town 3 Petersfield Town 1: PETERSFIELD faced a tough task last Saturday when they travelled to high flying Romsey Town, whose recent form has been particularly impressive.
Unsurprisingly, Romsey tried to impose themselves on the game from the outset but the Rams dealt well with the early pressure and were soon asking questions of the home defence.
Romsey’s Liam Magee opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a superb strike from all of 25 yards which found the top left hand corner.
Play continued to be fairly even but the Rams fell further behind in the 36th minute when Magee found himself in space to slot home past keeper Jacob Orr.
In the 38th minute Petersfield had their best chance of the half when Matt Rowland was through on goal, but, with just home keeper Charlie Philpott to beat, his close range shot was saved.
The visitors made a good start to the second half, and in the 52nd minute they reduced the deficit when a goalmouth scramble ended with Jordan Neal bundling the ball home.
Petersfield’s joy was shortlived, however, as in the 57th minute Romsey restored their two-goal advantage when Ryan Kennedy could only turn a crossfield ball into his own net.
A combination of luck and good defending kept Petersfield at bay and the home side were dangerous on the counter attack.
