HORNDEAN exited the FA Vase on Saturday afternoon after losing 3-2 at Horsham YMCA after extra time.
The Deans took the lead through Jack Maloney’s penalty, but the hosts equalised when Dean Carden’s penalty was saved and Carden scored the rebound. Both sides had chances to score again in the first half, but the two sides went in level at half time at 1-1. The hosts had the chance to win the game in the second half when they were awarded another penalty, but Carden’s effort was saved and the match went into extra time.
Sam Schaaf’s shot gave the hosts the lead in extra time, and Matt Simpson’s header into the bottom corner of the goal made it 3-1 to Horsham YMCA. Benny Read pulled a goal back for Horndean to make it 3-2 and set up a grandstand finish, but the visitors were unable to find an equaliser and their Wembley dream came to an end for this season.
