HORNDEAN Football Club hosted a glamour fixture on Sunday when a team of celebrities showed off their footwork in aid of charity.
The television cameras were absent for a change when several stars from the hit Channel 4 soap, Hollyoaks, took on a Football For Cancer (FFC) side.
But there was still plenty of action on and off the pitch at Five Heads Park with the event raising close to £4,000 for FFC.
The event was organised at relatively short notice by Dan Swan, a FFC board member who is also the manager of Tiger Tiger Portsmouth.
More than 400 people passed through the turnstiles while around 20 cast and crew members played their part in the day’s events.
“Everyone had a great time and we had some fun afterwards in the bar where everyone got to meet the stars,” said Mr Swan.
“The person who won the raffle also had a really good time because they got to look around the Hollyoaks VIP bus.”
The match was a gutsy affair with the FFC side claiming a hard-fought 3-1 victory over their Liverpool opponents on The Deans’ famous sloping pitch.
Sadly, not everyone at the match was feeling so charitable as thieves targeted the FFC dressing room at some point during the day.
“I think somebody thought it was the Hollyoaks dressing room so they stole some T-shirts and some other things,” added Mr Swann.
“They didn’t take much but I’d rather we didn’t focus on that because it was all about raising money.”
