HORNDEAN are through to the next round of the Sydenhams League Cup after winning 2-1 away at Lymington Town in the quarter finals on Saturday afternoon.

Luke Ansell scored for Lymington, but goals from Sean McMonagie and Jay Kane were enough to send the Deans through to the last four stage.

The Five Heads Park outfit will travel to Portland United in the semi finals, with the tie scheduled to be held at Portland’s Weyline Stadium at 7.45pm on Tuesday, March 12.

Horndean manager Michael Birmingham said: “In the first 30 minutes we gave Lymington too much respect, but in the last 15 minutes of the first half we got into the game, and we carried on in the second half.

“It was a great result, and Portland will now be a tough match.

“I know Portland are taking this cup seriously.

“I’ve said that this cup is for our fringe players, and I’m sure they’ll go to Portland looking to win.”

Alresford Town were left frustrated when their Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division clash at home to Hamble Club at Arlebury Park on Friday night was postponed due to a frozen pitch.
