HORNDEAN had a frustrating week as they picked up just one point from two matches in the Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division.

The Deans started their week with a 2-0 defeat at Andover Town last Tuesday night.

George Hallahan broke the deadlock for the hosts in the seventh minute, and Hallahan sealed the three points when he made it 2-0 to Andover on 43 minutes.

Horndean then drew 2-2 at home to Amesbury Town on Saturday.

Miles Everett gave the Deans the lead in the 14th minute, and Everett then doubled Horndean’s advantage on 37 minutes.

Kieran Stephens pulled a goal back for the visitors, and Gareth Horner’s goal ensured the spoils were shared.

Horndean manager Michael Birmingham said: “Everyone was slipping and sliding on the pitch on Saturday, so fair play to the referee for getting the game on.

“Given the conditions, it was not a bad point.

“Amesbury are very physical and direct, so the conditions suited them.

“Andover dominated us in the first half last Tuesday night.

“I think Andover will win the league, and deservedly so. They know how to control games.”
