HORNDEAN manager Michael Birmingham was pleased with his side’s efforts after they drew 0-0 at high-flying AFC Stoneham in the Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division last Tuesday night.

Stoneham had won their past nine league games, conceding only three goals in the process, and were unbeaten in 13 league games. The Deans were more than a match for their opponents though.

“It was a good point,” said Birmingham. “It was a match between two sides in form.

“In the first half we were the better side, and it was a game of half-chances.

“In the second half they were better for the first 15 minutes, but we were on top for the last ten to 15 minutes.

“It was a third clean sheet in a row and my keeper hasn’t had a save to make. To go there and be the better side for 60 minutes was very pleasing. They are a very good side.

“The boys deserve a lot of credit as they’ve worked hard.”

Horndean’s trip to Hamble Club in the Premier Division on Saturday was postponed.
