HORNDEAN reached the next round of the Portsmouth Senior Cup after knocking out Locks Heath in the second round last Wednesday night.

The Deans won 5-4 on penalties after the two sides had played out a 2-2 draw.

Jake Alford gave the hosts the lead in the 38th minute, but Ben Cooper’s equaliser got Horndean back on level terms.

Alford scored his second of the game to put Locks Heath 2-1 up, but Jack Carson’s late equaliser made it 2-2.

The Deans then held their nerve from the spot to reach the third round.

Horndean manager Michael Birmingham said: “The lads showed good character to come from behind.”

The Deans were frustrated by the weather on Saturday, when their match at home to Bashley was postponed.
