HORNDEAN have reached the Third Round Proper of the Buildbase FA Vase after winning 3-2 at home to Royal Wootton Bassett Town in the Second Round Proper last Tuesday night.

Antonio Gerrish gave the visitors the lead, but the Deans equalised when Jack Maloney scored a penalty in the 35th minute. Ash Howes then put Horndean 2-1 up in the 52nd minute. Lewis Waldon equalised for the visitors, but Josh Maloney’s goal in the 70th minute sealed Horndean’s place in the next round.

The visitors had to play over half the match with nine men.

Horndean boss Michael Birmingham said: “Full credit to Royal Wotton Bassett Town. They were excellent.”

Horndean didn’t enjoy a perfect week though, as they slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Team Solent in the Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division on Saturday afternoon. Hisham Kasimu scored for the hosts in the 34th minute.
