HORNDEAN are in fourth place in the Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division after losing 2-1 at home to Shaftesbury on Saturday.

The Deans took the lead through Jack Maloney’s penalty, but goals from Ashley Clarke and Jack Mitchell gave the visitors the three points.

Horndean manager Michael Birmingham said: “My team gave all they could and it is our first defeat since Alresford.

“Shaftesbury deserved the three points, no complaints.”
