HORNDEAN picked up four points out of a possible six in the Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division in the last week to stretch their unbeaten run in the league to nine games.

The Deans started their week with a 4-2 win at home to Lymington Town last Tuesday night. Alfie Lis gave the home side the lead in the 19th minute, although Mike Gosney’s penalty on 32 minutes brought Lymington back on level terms.

Jake King’s goal in the 36th minute gave the visitors a 2-1 lead at half time, but Liss scored his second goal of the game on 50 minutes to make it 2-2. Jack Maloney gave the Five Heads Park outfit the lead in the 74th minute, and Maloney’s penalty six minutes later sealed a 4-2 win for the Deans.

Horndean then threw away a 3-0 lead to draw 3-3 at Bemerton Heath Harlequins on Saturday afternoon.

Goals from Benny Read and Sean McMonagle gave the away side a 2-0 lead at half time, and Read scored his second of the game early in the second half to make it 3-0 to the Deans.

Lymington soon pulled a goal back and were reduced to ten men, and they scored two late goals to earn a point.

Horndean manager Michael Birmingham said: “We should have been 5-0 up at half time. Bemerton should have been dead and buried.

“For an hour we were fantastic and we ripped them to pieces, but in the last 30 minutes our movement was not as fluent and we tried to force the issue. I’m still immensely proud of my young side though and we’ve taken 23 points out of the last 27, which is a fantastic return.”
