PETERSFIELD Town manager Ian Saunders paid tribute to his muddy marvels after an injury time winner saw them win a seven goal Christmas cracker of a game.
The Rams faithful were served up a festive feast of football at Love Lane on Saturday as Petersfield ran out 4-3 winners against Leighton Town in Division 1 Central.
Both sides deserved credit for producing such an entertaining spectacle on a heavy pitch but the Rams came from 3-1 down to stage a dramatic late fightback.
The win means the Rams have reached the half way point of the Southern League season well placed to meet the objectives they set themselves for the season.
Petersfield now sit comfortably in 14th place – 14 points clear of the relegation zone and 12 points behind the play-off positions.
With 26 points already in the bag, they are well on the way to hitting their first target of 40 points, which would see the Rams maintain their Southern League status.
They are also within striking distance of a push for promotion if they can string together a lengthy run of winning form during the second half of the season.
After Saturday’s match Saunders said:?“Never have I been through the whole amount of emotion that I have today. Great heart was shown by my lads but they need to stop giving the opposition two-goal leads.
“The results puts us in a good position. However, we need to keep our feet on the ground and push on now.”
