CLANFIELD conceded a late equaliser to share the spoils with Paulsgrove in a well-fought, competitive game at Peel Park on Saturday.
The home side were looking to bounce back from a disappointing performance against Overton United in their previous match.
Paulsgrove put Clanfield under pressure early on, but the home side stood firm and weathered the storm.
Clanfield grew into the game and took the lead on the stroke of half time. The home side won a free kick 40 yards out, which Loo Amos swung towards the back post where the Paulsgrove keeper missed his punch and Elliot Sills volleyed the ball into the goal.
Paulsgrove got themselves back on level terms in the second half when a shot was deflected into the bottom corner, leaving Clanfield keeper Olly Howley with no chance.
The hosts regained the lead with a fine goal from Owen Milne, who picked the ball up on the edge of the box and curled a right-foot shot which went over the keeper and hit the post before going in.
Paulsgrove equalised after a counter-attack from a Clanfield corner in the 89th minute. A cross came in from the right and the ball was turned into the bottom corner to make it 2-2.
Clanfield manager Lee Blakely said: “What a response we had from last week’s performance. The lads were superb and gave everything.
“In the first half, especially, to keep and play football like we did against a team like Paulsgrove just shows how far we have come and how exciting we are to watch.
“We now need to work on playing this football for longer spells in games and we feel we can match anyone in the league when we play like this.
“Performance-wise it was very pleasing.”
