Alresford Town 4 AFC Portchester 3: ALRESFORD Town scored a late winner to win a dramatic match against AFC Portchester in the Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division last Tuesday night.
The Magpies took the lead after nine minutes when a low cross into the box was tucked away by Sam Burt.
It was 2-0 on 16 minutes. A corner dropped inside the six yard box and Luke Dempsey slid the ball into the far corner of the net.
The home side got their third goal on 24 minutes. Alresford broke down the right wing and there were two players unmarked when the cross went into the box, and Paul Coventry side footed home from six yards out.
The visitors pulled a goal back on 38 minutes when Sean Wain slipped a pass through to set Dan Simmonds clear of the defence and his shot beat keeper Dan Kempson at his near post.
Portchester got their second goal ten minutes into the second half from a corner on the left. Olly Searle’s attempt hit one of his own players but he scored with his second shot on target.
Kempson and Simmonds clashed after the goal, and the referee showed Simmonds a straight red card.
It was 3-3 on 74 minutes. Billy Connor crossed the ball to Joel Jackson, whose downward header from six yards out bounced up over Kempson’s dive and into the net.
Alresford scored the winning goal on 84 minutes. Liam Hibberd drove towards the penalty area and unleashed a curling shot which hit the inside of the post and bounced into the net.
