LISS Athletic manager Rich Bessey is looking forward to Saturday’s match at league leaders Hamble Club, after the team’s game against Paulsgrove was called off.

Liss are in fourth place in the Puma Engineering Hampshire Premier League Senior Division table, but they are only five points behind Hamble and have two games in hand on the leaders.

“If we win we close to within two points of Hamble with two games in hand,” said Bessey.

“We’ve got a squad of 18 players for Saturday, but I’m looking to get a goalkeeper in before the weekend.”

Liss lost 3-0 against Hamble on the opening day of the season, and Bessey is hoping for a better result on Saturday.

He said: “We played 3-4-3 in August and had no full-backs, and Hamble exploited that.

“We only lost only one of our first 16 league games, so if we do that in the next 16 games it is in our hands.”
